Understanding the Dangers of Diabetes

Diabetes has been known as a disorder which is affecting how a body utilizes its food for energy. The sugar that we eat becomes digested so it can be turned in to glucose. Glucose than circulate in our blood for cells consume it as their fuel. There is a hormone that is produced within your pancreas, called insulin, is responsible for helping the glucose move in the cells. However, if the pancreas is not healthy, that is pancreas are not maintaining proper insulin levels, the process beings to slow down causing a higher blood sugar level.

There are currently two main types known for diabetes. For those that have type 1 of diabetes happen to be unable to actually produce any insulin. Those that have type 2 do produce insulin, however, some how the cells do not happen to respond. With diabetes of any type, one can face serious complications due to a higher glucose level.

As the body cells are not getting insulin in either type of diabetes, it is your body that tells you about the symptoms. When there is too much glucose on your blood, urination becomes more frequent. Another symptom of diabetes is unquenchable thirst. As you urinate more you need more water to prevent dehydration. Losing weight is also a sign of diabetes usually of type 1. The cells are not getting any insulin so the body in desperation starts breaking down muscle tissue and fat for energy.

The glucose does not get in to your cells and hence they are energy starved. Therefore one might feel weakness and fatigue. Tingling or numbness in your hand, feet or leg, called Neuropathy, is also a symptom of diabetes. As the diagnosis to diabetes may not have been made, nerve damage may result over the period and hence this feeling. Blurred vision, dry skin, cut and bruises that take long time to heal are also symptoms of diabetes.

Diagnosis of diabetes can bring new set of challenges with the type of diabetes one has. For either type of diabetes, one has to change their lifestyle and dietary habits to effectively fight diabetes related complications from occurring. First thing is to keep record of the blood sugar levels, in the morning, before meal, after meal and before going to bed. These records will tell you or your doctor as to which medication or dietary schedule is better for you.
Taking the medicine as prescribed even if one feels better is most important. For type 1 diabetes one needs to take prescribed amount of insulin to prevent diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), a life threatening emergency.

With the diagnosis of diabetes one needs to plan their meals too. What to eat, how much to eat, when to eat and monitoring are important. Also a diabetic person should remain active and do exercise regularly to help in weight loss or increase the effectiveness of insulin receptors.

By becoming aware of the dangers of diabetes and educating yourself, you arm yourself with the information needed to live a long and healthy life that is diabetes free. With the many alternatives available today, avoiding food and drinks that contain these toxins is easier than ever.
